New Year's Resolutions For Your Home
Dated: January 4 2022
When another New Year comes around, we all set goals for ourselves. Eating healthier, working out, being more organized, but do you ever set goals for your home?
I have put together a list of 4 resolutions for your home. All of these things will help you start the New Year off strong. It is always good for a fresh start, and believe it or not, your home needs a fresh start too!
1. Clear Out Any Clutter
Clearing out clutter is one of the easiest ways for you to feel better about your home. Every year, we all acquire piles of things we think we will use or want to keep, but never even touch again. It all ends up getting shoved into closets, drawers or cabinets.
All of this clutter makes your house appear dirtier than it actually is. Invest in good baskets you can store things in. This will allow your home to appear clean and organized, even if you end up hiding clutter within those baskets.
Check out these 10 Clutter-Clearing Strategies That Will Make Your Life Easier!
2. Create A Cleaning Schedule
Put together a schedule that will help you stay on top of cleaning. Make this realistic, something you can actually keep up with the entire year! Start off easy, you can always add more tasks if you feel like it is needed. I have put together a schedule example below:
- Make your bed and pick up any clutter you notice in your bedroom
- Bring everything back to its assigned place
- Organize any pillows and blankets you have in your living room
- Unload dishwasher if needed
- Put all dishes in dishwasher
- Wipe down counters
- Clean floors in kitchen
- Put everything back to its assigned place
- Take the trash out
- Time to clean the whole house!
- Wipe all appliances, tables, counters, etc.
- Clean your bathrooms
- Clean all of your floors
- Wipe down blinds and windows
- Wash bedding and any dirty clothes you have
Again, create the plan that works for you! Try different things and switch up your plan so it works with your schedule. Once you get in the habit, this will become a simple way for you to keep your house looking fresh and clean all year long!
3. Five Things You Should Throw Away
While you are getting rid of all of the clutter in your house, I have put together a list of things you should make sure to throw away with it. All of these items don't add any value to your house, so you might as well just toss them!
Expired Foods and Products:
Go through your pantry, cabinets and fridge and throw away any expired products you see. Make a list of all of those expired products so you can buy them on your next grocery run!
We all have a stash of candles in our home. If you notice any that are half-burned, unused or ones that don't smell good, throw them out. There is no need to hold on to them if they aren't being used or if they are almost empty!
Take a look at all of the pillows in your house. If you notice any old ones that are flat or falling apart. Throw them out and go buy some new ones!
Hangers and Clothes:
Go through all of your closets and get rid of any of those hangers that don't match. Go out and buy new hangers so all of them in your closet coordinate. While you are doing this, toss the clothes you don't wear! There is no need to keep clothes that just take up space in your closet. Make a pile of those you don't wear and donate them, your closet will look clean and organized!
4. Double Check All Safety Features
This is one of the most important things to do when a New Year starts. Take a walk around your house to double check all safety features are still working properly. Replace the batteries in all of your smoke detectors, check your house for radon, clean your dryer to make sure it is free of any lint, and uncover any vents that you notice are covered. All of these will help prevent further issues or damages that could come to your home later in the year!
