Denver Plans To Get Cleaner And Greener

Mayor Hancock has a new plan and strategy with goals to be reached by 2050. This new plan is going to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80%  . The mayor says "we have a responsibility to act" and he sure is doing so.  Global warming is a global concern, and luckily we live in a place with a mayor that really is proactive about making changes the smart and clean way!

The Goals for the city are; energy efficient buildings (Denver has already been placed in the top 10 for having the most energy efficient cities) , Adding more renewable energy sources to Denver s Portfolio, like solar power and hopefully to be like Aspen who uses 100% renewable resources!

He also plans to continue to promote alternative modes of transportation such as biking, walking, and transit use.  Just this year they already added protected bike trails downtown, making it much more greener and easier to navigate for those without a car or chose to ride.  Along with that, he hopes to start a community wide RTD Eco-Pass system. Over all he would like to see us reduce the  demand for new materials and goods.  

All of this is in his 40 page report .  He goes on to explain that by integrating Urban Planning, and  Energy Efficiency, and renewable energy measures and improving mobility options, Denver will remain a global leader in meeting the challenges of climate change and deliver a better environment for future Denver communities.
