Denver Airport Is 6th Busiest

Over 25 million passengers flew through Denver International Airport in 2004 making it the 6th busiest airport in the country.  Atlanta, the busiest in the world, had over 46 million passengers.  It was followed by Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and New York - Kennedy (JFK).

2015 is shaping up to be even busier for DIA despite a 43% reduction in service by Denver-based Frontier Airlines.  Frontier'd decision to move more towards  an ultra low-cost carrier model has emphasized fewer people connecting through Denver on Frontier flights.  However, United Airlines and Southwest (the two largest airlines at DIA) and other legacy carriers as well as Spirit have more than compensated for the decline in Frontier numbers.

The competition at DIA continues to make it one of the most affordable airports in the country.   In 2015, Denver International ranks 13th on the iist of most affordable airports to fly from -- quite surprising considering its distance to other major population centers.  This is up from 20th in 2014.

The presence of a well-utilized and affordable airport that will see a welcome addition in early 2016 with rail service is another boon to a metropolitan area seeing a major influx of newcomers.
