Both new business filings and the number of businesses and non-profits in good standing in Colorado continued to increase in the third quarter, according to the Colorado Secretary of State Quarterly Business & Economic Indicators.

The continued growth in business filings points to continued employment gains into 2017, noted Brian Lewandowski, associate director of the Business Research Division at the University of Colorado Boulder Leeds School of Business, which prepared the report.

The number of new entity filings rose 7.3 percent year-over-year, driven by a 9.3 percent jump in LLC filings, but they were down 3.8 percent from the second quarter.

Existing entity renewals were at 119,385, up from 4.1 percent a year ago and flat with the second quarter. They have risen year-over-year for 17 consecutive quarters.

Businesses in good standing continue to increase in 2016, rising 5.4 percent from year-ago levels to reach 619,477, a new record.
