As 2017 begins, creating and sticking to a budget is a resolution for many people. Using an app for budgeting can help you save money and avoid overdraft or late payment fees. Many apps provide notifications to let you know when you have gone over budget or when you are nearing deadlines to pay bills. Here are some of the most popular free budgeting apps to help you keep your finances in check:

Mint – One of the reasons that the Mint budgeting app is so popular is that it takes the stress and effort out of creating a budget. This handy app connects to your bank account and uses details from your spending patterns to help you create a budget. Once the budget is created, you also have the ability to edit based on spending categories. Download the Mint app for use on Apple or Android.

PocketGuard – Much like Mint, PocketGuard connects to your bank account, but rather than creating spending categories, it gives you constant access to your balance and transactions. The app shows you how much money you currently have, how much income you have earned, and how much you have spent. Additionally, PocketGuard identifies recurring payments for which you need to plan and works them into your budget. PocketGuard can be downloaded for Apple or Android.

Wally – Don’t want to connect a budgeting app to your bank account? The Wally app is a fantastic expense tracker that helps you budget, as well as gives notifications when a bill is due or when you hit a savings goal! Download Wally for Apple or Android.
