5 Ways To Love Your Home
Home is where your heart it. A house is more than the 4 walls and a roof…it’s the people who live in it and create memories that makes it a home. And when I use the word “home” I’m not just referring to the traditional single family detached home either, I’m simply talking about wherever you happen to live right now.
Here are 5 Ways To Love Your Home
It’s so hard to not make comparisons about everything in our lives. There’s so much self inflicted pressure to “keep up with…somebody” that perhaps we should just take a step back and be content with what we have. Love where you are right now. Maybe we could shift our thinking to get away from the comparisons and start taking action on “dreams” and “goals”. If your goal is to have your dream home one day, then what actions could you start taking today to get there?
Be Inspired By What You See
If you’re not feeling the love so much anymore with your decor, then perhaps take some simple inspiration by what’s around you. Look outside your window…what do you see? Listen to the sounds outside your door…what do you hear? Take in a deep breath through your nose…what do you smell? Let this little exercise give you some ideas on how you might do a bit of redecorating with plants, artwork, paint or just try moving your furniture around for a whole new look.
Keep It Clean & Tidy
Studies show that keeping a clean and organized home is good for your heart. I know that if my office is a mess and there are files and materials all over my desk that I feel overwhelmed and distracted. Here are some fun facts when it comes to house cleaning.
Shop Your Home
If you're anything like me, I don't always take the time to look through closets or dressers for something I need or want. Instead, we go to the store and spend money for something that the majority of the time we probably had all along but never looked. Now I realize this will take effort and practice but the next time you "need" or "want" something take a hard look around your house to make sure that you don't already have it. You might be surprise at what you really have and might be even more surprised at how much money you could save.
Upscale What You Have
I read an article lately about redecorating. What I liked about it was it had you focus on one room. Pick one room in your home and make a plan to "upscale it" on a dime. Draw the room out, paste pictures of items you'd like to decorate it with, colors you'd like to use, patterns you'd like to see and textures you'd like to feel. Now you will start to see what the potential could be and then you can determine an appropriate budget. Now let's refer back to our 4th step of "Shop Your Home" from above. Take a look and see what you already have hidden away that you can incorporate into this new "upscale" room you envision. A local thrift store is a fantastic way to find unique and useful items on the cheap. Often times just one thing can be the catalyst for a beautiful "snowball effect".
Whatever it is that you decide to do just make it a reflection of yourself and create a space that makes you say and feel..."There's No Place Like Home".
