Colorado Gardening Tips for February
Thinking about selling or listing your home this spring? Here are a few gardening tips to keep in mind this month.
Keep an eye on bulbs that have been stored over the winter. make sure they aren't rotting or dried out.
If it's a snowy month, brush the snow off your trees and shrubs and prune any of the branches or shrubs that have suffered from snow or ice damage. If it's a dry month, deep watering your trees and shrubs is a good idea. You can do this by using a soil needle or a deep root feeder or simply by running your hose around the drip line (the place where the longest branch extends) of the plant. If you notice water pooling, then it's time to move the hose. Remember, you'll want to do this in the morning on a day that's 45 degrees or warmer.
Keep in mind, late winter is a good time to thin out old overgrown shrubs. This will help your shrubs grow from the base of the plant and you'll have less pruning to do in the spring.
