Enjoying The Community

There is nothing like a beautiful day with plenty of sun protection to enjoy time in the outdoors.  Plenty of food and drink, with friends and family is how I like to enjoy my down time.  This weekends' down time was spent out at Denver East HighImage title School for a relaxing day of baseball.  It's not always relaxing, depending on how your team is doing, but this year has been more relaxing than others.  No longer a coach, I still show my support by being at as many games as I can, as most of the other parents do as well.

The sun was relentless this day so we were sharing our canopy with whoever needed some shade,  it didn't matter which side you were on.  I noticed one dad discretely taking a corner of shade trying not to obstruct anyone else's view.  To my surprise, hiding under the dark glasses and Rockies hat was Governor Hickenlooper.  He, like the rest of us parents was there supporting his team.  He was gracious enough to pose for a quick photo.

I was quite happy to see that in such a politically turbulent time as we currently have today, there wasn't even as much as a whisper of politics.  I think it goes without having to say that when inner city Denver meets suburban Douglas County there are bound to be differences of opinion.  Not on this day.  Parents on both sides were cheering for their team, an occasional "common Ump!" was heard followed by some laughing.  At the conclusion of the games, the two teams shook hands and we all went our separate ways knowing that our young men, whether or not they realized it, just witnessed an example of how things should be.
