Denver Top For Home Price Appreciation
Denver reported the biggest annual jump in home values in January of any of the 20 cities tracked by the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices, but the momentum, as in many cities, appears to be waning.
The Denver Home Price Index was up 8.6 percent in January from the same month a year earlier versus a 4.6 percent gain averaged in the 20-city index, according to an update Tuesday of the closely watched barometer.
Miami had the next-largest annual gain, 8.4 percent, followed by Dallas, 8.1 percent.
Measured on a month-over-month basis, the 20-city index was flat. Denver showed a 0.2 percent increase in January from December versus a 0.5 percent gain between November and December.
Charlotte, N.C., Miami, and San Diego had the biggest month-over-month gains at 0.7 percent, while San Francisco, previously one of the hottest housing markets, reported the biggest monthly decline, 0.9 percent.
