If you've been in Colorado for a number of years, you know that the weather on the front range can change on a dime, and have probably heard the adage "If you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait 5 minutes and it will change". While it really doesn't change radically in a span of 5 minutes (except for storms typical throughout the mid-western U.S.), our weather can definitely vary in extremes in 24 hours, as we have just experienced from yesterday to today.
Yesterday's summer-y 70 degree temperatures had us donning our shorts and pondering when to sharpen the mower blades, and today's weather had us knocking snow off of the satellite dish and running for our shovels and coats again! While today's accumulations are more than the average storm, a good, wet snowstorm is something we can pretty much count on every year. The snow accumulation that we have seen today does not typify our weather, but it's also not greatly unusual. And as you've also probably heard others say, we certainly can use the moisture as we prepare for a hot and dry summer.
So whether you got a snow day break from work on this hump-day or had to dig out early and muscle up to handle your day, know that you have just experienced a Denver rite of passage into a beautiful Colorado springtime, thankfully looming just on the horizon. Soon enough the talk around town will change to beautiful blooms, fun outdoor activities, and how dastardly hot it will be in just a few short months. Behold the ever-changing landscape of our wonderful state!
