Colorado History As Close As Mount Falcon Park Near Evergreen Colorado
ome really cool history at Mount Falcon Park – In 1911 John Brisben Walker who owned what is now Mount Falcon Park had proposed the idea of a Summer White House.
There is a marble cornerstone showing the
proposed site in the Park. A short hike to the spot you will find some
ideas and drawings of what Mr. Walker envisioned for the Summer Whitehouse.
Also in the park is the remains of the Walker’s home which burned down in 1918 from a
lightening strike. The foundation is all that remains of a castle that had 8 fireplaces and
numerous rooms – somewhere around 32 –
So go spend some time at Mount Falcon Park
and visit a little Colorado history.
Brisben Walker was an inventor, innovator and visionary, and he truly was a
“Renaissance Man.” By the time he was 26 years old (in 1873), Walker had
attended Gonzaga College, Georgetown College, and West Point Military Academy;
served as a military advisor and general in a Chinese Army; run for Congress on
the Republican ticket; married Emily Strother, "the prettiest girl in the
valley of the Virginia;" and speculated on land in West Virginia, winning
and then losing his first fortune. Walker spent the next three years as
managing editor of the Cincinnati Commercial Gazette and the Washington D.C.
