Amazon Hired 900 Workers In About A Month To Ramp Up New Aurora Fulfillment Center

Amazon can finally check this off its list: Open fulfillment center in Colorado.
The company’s first fulfillment center in the state, which opened this month, has shipped its first package, which ironically was to McAllen, Texas, a state with at least seven Amazon fulfillment centers.
The new Aurora location ramped up fast. Since August, it has hired 900 employees and is near its 1,000-workforce goal to handle the peak holiday season, according to Ashley Robinson, an Amazon spokeswoman.
“In August, we had just begun hiring,” Robinson said. “For us, it was about figuring out the best channels to reach candidates – especially since we are still relatively new in the region. But very quickly we were able to start onboarding hundreds of new employees. It’s been great.”
The new fulfillment center, located at Prologis Park 70, on East 19th Avenue north of the Interstate 70/E-470 junction, is Amazon’s second large facility in Colorado. It focuses on larger products, like furniture, televisions and, apparently, the bulky video game Rock Band 4, which was the first item Aurora employees shipped.
Last year, Amazon opened a sortation center in Aurora that only accepted already-packed packages and delivered them to neighborhood post offices for delivery.
A third fulfillment center is expected to open next year in Thornton. It will include robots working alongside humans and be more of the typical smaller-item facility.
