What to do when your city is on “Accident Alert?”

Winter is here and the weather in Colorado often lives up to the possibility of experiencing four seasons in one day.  Though we have experienced warmer weather this season, Colorado tends to witness extreme winter storms through May.  Hazardous weather conditions welcome the opportunity for difficult situations, both on and off the road.

During this time of the year,  service providers become engulfed with distressed calls.  To alleviate many non-emergency calls, Colorado has implemented an “Accident Alert” system.  Through social media and news outlets, the emergency response systems have worked to make the surrounding areas aware of advisories and awareness.

So what do you do when you are told your neighborhood is under an “Accident Alert?”  Following the Nextdoor.com website in my neighboring areas, I thought it would be helpful to share the information provided by the Parker Police Department.

If you are involved in an accident when we are on Accident Alert you should:

*Make sure that everyone in your vehicle and the other vehicle involved is uninjured.
*Confirm nobody involved is under the influence of drugs or alcohol (to the best of your ability).
*If vehicles are drivable, move them out of lanes of traffic.
*Exchange insurance information.
*Report your accident online to your city Police Department’s website call your city’s non-emergency phone number.

No one plans to utilize any sort of emergency services, but it happens.  The Accident Awareness is put in place to make priorities that.  When you are in an emergency, always call 9-1-1.
