7 Quick Steps To Maintaining A Clutter Free House
I am sure it is safe to say most families are so busy they feel like they cannot keep their home in order. Here are a few tips that help me.
Make your bed - This takes all of 3 minutes. If you do it you will feel so much better walking into your room and pulling back the sheets every night. Now it might take a little bit of time for your children to get used to it but I suggest starting them very young when positive reinforcement still works.
Wipe your bathroom counters - Wipe your counters towards the end of your morning routine.
Wipe your kitchen counters and table - I suggest doing this after every meal.
Dishwasher - load every night and unload every morning. This is helpful for the person responsible for cooking dinner every night. No one wants to come home to cook and find that they need to do dishes first.
Laundry - Daily! You don't necessarily have to wash a load daily but you should definitely wash at least every other day and put away on the opposite days. Set aside items to iron once a week. Laundry can be stressful and messy if you wait to do it one day out of the week. If you just touch it at least once a day you will make progress. Try to wash more by type of clothes and less focus on color.
Mail - This is also best if you focus on this daily or every other day so that it doesn't pile up like laundry.
Pick-up - sorry I know this is obvious but every night if you can fold a blanket on the couch or put away the random pair of shoes it makes a difference.
The best advise I can give you is the same thing my mom told me growing up "put it back where you found it". If you use a pair of scissors to cut the tags off your clothes put the scissors back in the drawer. If you pull out a notepad to write on put it back in the drawer when your done. If you live by this as you go throughout your day your home won't feel so cluttered.
Check back next week on some tips for 2018!
