3 Questions To Ask Before Your Next Kitchen Remodel

Last year nearly 10.2 million remodeling and replacement projects were completed.  Although 65% of homeowners remodeled to maintain their home, 30% did so to improve the homes resale value.  The kitchen is one of the most popular rooms of the home to remodel.

Kitchens offer an average return of 66% of cost.  A mid-range minor kitchen remodel has a return of 72.1%.
Whether you're updating your kitchen with a fresh coat of paint or you're in for a complete overhaul, here are three questions to ask before you start the project.
1.  Is the kitchen remodel to prepare the home for the market or maintain the value of the home?
If you are going to put your home on the market it is wise to go with what the current trends are and not for your personal design choices.
2.  How much will the project cost?
A basic upgraded kitchen that keeps the basic footprint intact, but gets a DIY cosmetic makeover including new budget-friendly appliances, a touch of paint, new hardware and fixtures.
Average cost: $5,000-$15,000.
A mid-sized renovation is a step above a basic upgrade that may include new cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances in addition to new paint and fixtures.
Average cost: $15,000-$35,000.
A major remodel is a completer overhaul that involves changing the current footprint, including tearing down walls, relocating appliances and changing plumbing.  Everything is new from cabinets, hardware, sink, appliances, flooring and fixtures.
Average cost: $35,000-$75,000.
3.  Do I hire a licensed professional?
Most homeowners can do minor improvements themselves, for the larger jobs it is best to hire licensed professionals.  Some of the improvements may require permits to meet current code requirements.

As the hub of the home, the kitchen is the room with all the action.  It's not just the place to prepare and cook food, it's also used for entertaining guest, storing gadgets and eating family meals.  Design your new kitchen with this in mind.
