Did you know that several local attractions offer free admission days throughout the year here in Denver? Here's the list for 2016.

Free days at the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Art Museum and Denver Botanic Gardens are sponsored by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District. It's a voter-approved special tax that helps fund more than 300 scientific and cultural organizations in the Denver metro area.

Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo will offer free admission on nine days in 2016:  November 4, November 7 and November 17. Denver Zoo website.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science will offer free general admission nearly once a month in 2016 on March 7, April 10, April 23, May 9, June 5, August 29, September 11, October 24, November 13 and December 12. A fee still applies to IMAX films, Planetarium shows, and temporary exhibitions. Museum's website.

Denver Art Museum

The Denver Art Museum offers free general admission to everyone on the first Saturday of each month: March 5, April 2, April 24, May 7, June 4, July 2, August 6, September 3, September 10, October 1, November 5 and December 3. Kids 18 and younger get free general admission every day. Museum's website.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Enjoy the Denver Botanic Gardens for free on March 19, April 3, June 23, July 26, September 14, November 11 and November 12. Free days at the gardens do not include ticketed events. Gardens' website.

Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield

Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens second location at Chatfield Farms for free on March 1, April 5, June 7, July 12, August 2 and November 1. Butterflies at Chatfield will not be be open during Chatfield Free Days.

Denver Firefighters Museum

Colorado residents get free admission at the Denver Firefighters Museum on April 23 and 24 and October 15.

Clyfford Still Museum

The Clyfford Still Museum offers free admission every Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The museum is free all day on the last Friday of every month (Jan. - Oct. 2016): February 26, March 25, April 29, May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26, September 30 and October 28.

Children's Museum of Denver

The Children's Museum of Denver offers free admission on the first Tuesday night of each month from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. thanks to Target. Learn more on the museum's website.

Butterfly Pavilion

While the Butterfly Pavilion does not offer free days, it does offer $5 admission days. In 2016, the $5 admission days are on April 23, September 17 and November 12. If you can't visit on a $5 admission day, the Butterfly Pavilion has a coupon for $1 off admission.

Denver Mint

Hudson Gardens

Hudson Gardens in Littleton offer free admission every day.

Aurora History Museum

The Aurora History Museum offers free admission every day.

Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys

The Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys offers a Community Day on the first Sunday of every month which drops the price of admission and just asks a $1 donation per person. 

BUT WAIT!!!! There's more...

Some local libraries have free passes to several local museums, including the Butterfly Pavilion, History Colorado and others. Check with your local library to see if they offer a culture, exploration or museum pass.

Also, if you have a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card, you get free admission at museums across the country on the first weekend of each month. In Colorado, the offer is valid at the Denver Zoo and the Denver Art Museum. However, the Denver Art Museum is Sunday only, because they already offer free admission to everyone on the first Saturday of the month. This list does change, so check the "Museums on Us" website, before you go.
