Is it "Updated" or "Remodeled"? There can be some confusion when looking at a home for sale that says it has been completely remodeled. Sometimes it can be both.
Remodeled by definition, means "to change the structure or form". Updated means, "to make something modern".The average home buyer probably doesn't care as long as it appeals to their taste or style.
Listing agents want to put the sellers home in the best possible light to sell. They often use either description as a generic marketing term.
What I would point out is this: A basic kitchen remodel may be nothing more than updated cabinets, appliances, counter tops and flooring. However, if there were any electrical, structural or plumbing moved during the process, it is a good idea to verify if the work was to code and permits were pulled. Ask if the homeowner did the work themselves or hired it out to a contractor. It is possible the current homeowner bought the home already remodeled and has no knowledge of the work that was done.
In that case it is a good idea to have a qualified Home Inspector or a Contractor to verify the remodel before following through with the purchase of the home. A home purchase is a big investment. Make sure you and your agent do the necessary due diligence required to make your new home a great and wonderful experience!
